12 Days Course Outline:
Lecture on design and layout of Japanese doors
Choosing the right joinery when designing a door
Selecting the right material and how to orient the grain for stable and beautiful doors
Learn about the common door types, hardware and various inserts (tongue and groove panel, glass panels, etc)
Refresher on basic Japanese hand tools and sharpening
Juntaro Saw Set (5 pc) (Recommended) OR Ryoba Saw 240mm
Bench Chisels 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 15mm (Oire Nomi)
150 momme Hammer (Genno)
Plane 54mm (Kanna)
Square 15cm x 30cm, 25cm x 50cm (metric)(Sashigane)
Sharpening stones
Ink Line Marking Gauge (Kebiki)
Marking of joinery for door making using kebiki and sashigane
Practice cutting door joinery by hand
Field trip to a historical home to study various door making methods and joinery
Final project: cut and assemble a set of doors with hardware
Completion of foundation course is highly recommended but not required

Meals and accommodation are not provided.
We can however recommend hotels that are near Okayama Station.
Transportation will be provided daily between the workshop and Okayama Station.

Class Schedule:
Class size: 8 students
Lessons: Monday to Sunday, 9am to 3pm
Teachers available until 5pm
Our workshop space can be used daily for practice from 9am to 6pm
Course will be conducted in English
